Split is the economic
and administrative center of Middle Dalmatia, with about 200,000
inhabitants. It is also the jumping-off point for exploration of
the coast and islands of the beautiful Croatian Adriatic. The site
was first settled when, at the end of the third century AD, the
Roman Emperor Diocletian built his palace here. The importance of
Diocletian's Palace far transcends local significance because of
its level of preservation and the buildings of succeeding historical
periods built within its walls, which today form the very heart
of old Split.
Split offers you itīs many charmes: the pines of the Marjan forest,
the murmur of the sea and the sound of a dalmatian song on the stone
streets of the city. Being aware of the importance of tourism, Split
built a number of modern hotels, ant its face, turned to sea, has
been adorned with a line of marinas, ranked among the most beautiful
ones on the Mediterranean. Tourists have the privilege of seeing
performances of top quality known as the Split Summer Festival.

Drive to Sibenik
hinterland to the famous Krka Waterfalls. Located in the lovely
Krka national park, the falls cascade over 17 natural barriers.
This permanent play of the sun and water creates a breathtaking
scenery. The Krka National Park was proclaimed a national park in
1985; it is the seventh national park in Croatia. It is located
in the ibenik and Knin county, and occupies an area of 111 km2
along the course of the Krka River, two kilometres downstream from
Knin to Skradin, and the lower course of the Cikola. The travertine,
limestone sedimented from water, which builds the travertine curtains,
sills, beards and other geomorphological forms, is the fundamental
phenomenon and principal feature of the National Park. The falls
are a biodynamic creation, the living travertine constantly growing
today as well, through the sedimentation process.
